About Bowen Therapy

The Gentle Art of Natural Healing

Discover how this revolutionary technique developed in Australia is helping people worldwide find relief from pain, stress, and chronic conditions through the power of gentle touch.

The Technique

What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy, also known as the Bowen Technique or Bowenwork, is a holistic, non-invasive therapy that was developed by Australian Tom Bowen in the 1950s. It involves gentle rolling movements over specific points on muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia.

The technique is based on the principle that the body has an innate ability to heal itself. By stimulating specific points, Bowen Therapy sends signals through the nervous system that help the body reset and rebalance, activating its natural healing mechanisms.

Unlike many other hands-on therapies, Bowen uses minimal intervention to achieve maximum effect. The therapist makes specific moves, then leaves the room for several minutes to allow the body to process and respond.

The Process

How Bowen Therapy Works

01

Gentle Moves

The therapist performs precise, rolling movements over specific points on muscles, tendons, and fascia.

02

Strategic Pauses

Between sequences, the therapist pauses for 2-5 minutes, allowing your body to process and respond to the treatment.

03

Body Resets

Your nervous system shifts from a sympathetic (alert) state to a parasympathetic (rest and repair) state, activating your body's natural healing processes.

The Difference

Bowen vs. Other Therapies

What makes Bowen Therapy unique compared to massage, chiropractic, or physiotherapy?

Bowen Therapy
Other Therapies
Gentle, light-touch movements
Deep tissue manipulation
Strategic pauses between moves
Continuous hands-on work
Works with the nervous system
Focus on muscles only
Results often in 1-3 sessions
May require ongoing treatment
Suitable for all ages
May not be suitable for everyone
Key Techniques

How a Session Unfolds

1

Initial Conversation

We begin with a detailed conversation about your medical history, lifestyle, stress levels, and current symptoms. We don't just treat a pain or discomfort — we look at the whole picture.

Every person is different, and the approach is fully personalized.

2

Assessment & Beginning of Therapy

You remain clothed, in a comfortable position, on the treatment table. Bowen moves are light, precise, and applied to specific key areas of the body.

Between these moves, there are therapeutic pauses. These moments of stillness are essential — they allow the nervous system to process the information and activate the body's natural self-regulation mechanisms.

There are no forced manipulations, painful pressure, or aggressive techniques. The therapy is gentle, yet profoundly effective.

3

After the Session

The body continues to work even after you leave the practice. Some people feel immediate relaxation, others notice progressive changes in the days that follow.

The first session generally lasts between 45 and 60 minutes.

Multiple sessions may be needed, depending on your goal and your body's response. The pace is always set together, with respect for your individual process.

Bowen Therapy doesn't "force" change. It gives the body the impulse it needs to rediscover its natural balance.

Sometimes, healing begins the moment you stop fighting and choose to listen to your body.

For the Little Ones

Bowen Therapy for Children

We know that when it comes to your child, you want to know exactly what to expect. You want safety. Gentleness. Trust.

A Bowen session is a calm, nurturing space where your child is truly listened to — not just through words, but through what their body communicates.

Children often respond quickly to this therapy, because their bodies are pure, receptive and naturally inclined toward balance.

1

Initial Conversation

We start with a quiet conversation about your child's history, the challenges they face, and their current needs. Every child is unique, and the approach is always fully tailored to them.

2

The Technique

Your child remains fully clothed, in a comfortable position on the treatment table — or, for very young children, in a parent's arms.

The therapist applies gentle, precise movements to specific areas of the body. Between each movement, there are short but essential pauses — moments when the body begins to process information and activate its own self-regulation.

There are no forced manipulations, painful pressure, or invasive techniques. Everything is delicate and adapted to the child's age.

3

Integration

After the session, the body continues to work. Sometimes effects appear immediately, other times over the following days. Every child has their own rhythm.

Sessions for children are generally shorter than for adults — because children respond much more quickly.

Bowen Therapy can support your child with:

  • Colic, reflux or constipation
  • Restless sleep or frequent night waking
  • Anxiety, heightened sensitivity, hyperactivity
  • Recurring respiratory issues
  • Growing pains
  • Postural imbalances
  • Immune system support

A Bowen session is not just a physical treatment. It is a moment of deep regulation, of nervous system calming, and gentle support for inner balance.

Because when the body is listened to with gentleness, it knows exactly what to do.

📩If you feel the time is right, I invite you to book a session for your child and discover how beautifully their body can respond.
